This is one of the most profound sexiest moving challenging pieces I have read in a very long time and I am so grateful that I did. Thank you universe and wonderwillow.

This last weekend a group of passionate and talented activists met at the historic Highlander retreat in Tennessee to - well I’m not sure exactly. I’m not sure because 1) it was supposedly a “secret” and 2) the only info that I know of that has come out of it yet has been on twitter. The tweets were intriguing but vague and almost purposefully cryptic, leaving me first...
Psychologists: Propaganda works better than you... →
In the Supreme Court decision, Kennedy also found: “When Government seeks to use its full power, including the criminal law, to command where a person may get his or her information or what distrusted source he or she may not hear, it uses censorship to control thought.”
But psychology suggests otherwise, Nosek says. “The reality is that organizations use advertising to control...
Propaganda Critic: because knowledge is power →
“The danger of propaganda lies in the fact that propaganda meets with unconscious wishes.” I think about this in relation to the propaganda behind prop8 and it is kind of a mind blowing way to look at it.

This is the link for the podcast I was on this evening; “Closet Talk” with Jay Morris. It was actually a lot of fun despite my nerves. There are um, many “um”s. I’ll have to work on that. Give it a listen - Jay is wonderful and it is good stuff.
Pound Prop 8: Tracking the Trial Tweets « Prop 8... →
My blog has been blogged! Being a guest blogger on the Courage Campaign’s Trial Tracker is like, IMHO, going from being an extra to having my first speaking part. On that note, here is what I have to say!
Columbia Law School Magazine : Marriage for... →
This is an intelligent, insightful and hopeful discussion between 4 law professors. Oh, I wish I had gone to law school. Maybe its not too late.
“… liberty and equality aren’t the only rights being argued in the marriage cases. In many of them, the primary argument being made is that exclusion from marriage creates a dignity harm by refusing to acknowledge that same-sex unions are...
Fierce Words, Little Power: #Prop 8 opponents show... →
Expert witness demonstrates one of the key points in proving prop 8 violates 14th amendment; that despite Will and Grace, Brokeback Mountain and our “fierce advocate”, President Obama, we are a politically vulnerable minority.
”There’s a difference between giving a nice speech and actually accomplishing some sort of policy change,” said Segura.
Segura also made some...

No blog tonight - just happy reading. Not that all the reading is happy; some of this is quite painful to see in print. But happy to be able to read it. And all I have to say is WOW.

Tremendous testimony this morning from an expert on LGBT politics; it is vital that our side demonstrates our political powerlessness and this witness is doing an outstanding job. At the same time, it is painful to see the overwhelming evidence of our political weakness acknowledged with such blatant clarity. The tweets from the yes side are simply desperate. In an attempt to discredit the...

Policing the tweets, one twit at a time?
The first witness today was Jerry Sanders, Mayor of San Diego, a former Police Chief who is described as a conservative Republican. Sanders changed his views and became a supporter of marriage equality when his daughter came out to him as a lesbian. The San Jose Mercury News described his testimony in part:
“San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders, who repeatedly choked up as he described his...

nobackseats I invite @ADFMedia and @ProtectMarriage to come to my house and see how my wife & I are “redefining” marriage. Kinky freaks will probably take me up on it. #prop8
Backtracking the tweets!
Are they responding to my replies?
ADFMedia ”Badgett, the economist, would not answer if she’d change her view should ss”m” be proven to hurt economy, though all knew the answer #prop8”
I knew that this was a misleading tweet, because I was watching what others were tweeting at the same time.
These are the tweets from

Two tweets side by side: #prop8trial #prop8 #trial
Note the difference in these two tweets:
Yes side tweet: ADFmedia Alleged economic harm imposed on SS cpls - “increased transaction costs” by having to write wills, etc.#prop8
No side tweet: ActOnPrinciples #prop8 #trial Badgett no ssm means less insurance, higher taxes on partner benefits, increased transaction costs of thousands per couple

My other tweet: Sanders has routinely marched with the LGBT community in support of human dignity and equal rights! PLS RT

Once again, I am stunned (you’d think I’d get it by now) at tweets from the yes side and at their skill in creating distorted propaganda. If you follow the yes and no tweets side by side, you can watch them as they cultivate fear & hate moment by moment. I do think it is important that we know what they say. If you can stomach it, check this out.
