STAND UP AND BE COUNTED!!!!
Did you know that Disney’s Grand California Hotel is hosting the Pacific Justice Institute’s annual gala on April 2? Dick Morris & Michelle Bachman are keynotes and VIP reception hosted by Focus on the Family.

Mickey is not pleased. It just so happens that April 2 is also mini-Gay Day at Disney (hah!) and the park will be replete with LGBT folks.
If Disney is going to continue to cal itself a welcoming place for LGBT people and our families, they need to know that hosting this group sends the exact opposite message.
Here are some links to PJI messaging about LGBT people and our families:
http://www.pacificjustice.org/search/node/homosexual
Please take a moment to contact Disney and let them know that we are very hurt by their decision to host these groups whose message is that there is something wrong with LGBT people and whose aim is to make sure LGBT people do not have equal rights.
You can call and email and let them know the following:
Disney Parks and Resorts have been a welcoming place for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people and their families. The Pacific Justice Institute has a proven track record of endorsing harmful rhetoric about LGBT people and families and opposing equality for all families. Therefore, hosting a Pacific Justice Institute event would contradict and call into question Disney’s ongoing commitment to creating positive experiences for all families and inclusion of LGBT people. We urge Disney Parks and Resorts to reconsider their involvement with this event which will contribute to harming families.
The contact number for booking meetings such at this Disneyland: (714) 520-7025.

Next up - Gay Day at Disney and a possible welcoming committee for PJI and Focus on the Family… Could the timing be any better???
Feel free to share this info!

Thank you for honoring your word. This is what we expected and will continue to demand. NOW, as our fierce advocate, we expect you to make sure that the discharges end immediately and LGBT people can serve and enlist openly without delay. NEXT, if we can die for our country, we should fucking be able to be married and safe in our jobs.
Sincerely,
the very first heckler,
Laura W. Kanter

Is your conscience content with voting for liars? Is it content to vote for anyone who thinks we are not fully equal and who “disagrees” with same-sex marriage because of what the bible teaches or because the institution of marriage is defined as one man and one woman? We have been waiting for those millions of pissed off people for too long. The tea party didn’t start with millions of people… A few hundred, a few thousand… who showed up. (Of course they had money… which is a HUGE factor). But how is it that ignorance and hatred motivate people to get engaged so easily?
Why would someone vote for a republican just because they are not voting for a democrat??? Are we so brainwashed and have we given up so much of our own power not to DEMAND a change?
This is the kind of messaging that appeals to the center, right, or the right of the left (fearless fakers). It infuriates me. Look how hard Dan Choi worked - talk about pulling yourself up by your bootstraps and extreme and consistent effort - and then he gets fired for being gay. WTF Obama????
I totally understand the magnitude and urgency of hard work and effort. However, any “pull yourself up by your bootstraps” speech - especially targeted towards America’s youth and given by a Democrat - should include at least some reference to the fundamental impact of the many discrepancies related to opportunity and a plethora of “isms”. You can call me a bleeding heart… but I may stop calling Obama a Democrat.
As a social worker and for many years, a school counselor, I understand the magnitude and urgency of hard work and effort. “So what you are saying” Jesus asks “is that you are against your second husband’s third
ex-wife’s born out of wedlock’s daughter getting married for the first time
to the woman she has lived and loved with for the last 12 years? I’m so
glad you are adhering to Bible’s teachings.”

I am looking forward to a full day of practicing my homosexuality and hoping to become an even better homosexual. Perhaps if SOME Christians and Jews and … would start practicing Christianity and Judaism and … they would become better Christians and Jews … . Sadly I think that the Mormon Church has it down in such a way that the only option is a complete redo.
Lay it on me my brothers and sisters. If there is a better way to have worded this, let me know. So many things to practice…
As my friend Robin McGehee would say:
Submitted with thoughtfully positive intent.
President Obama on the Mosque at Ground Zero…
On Friday: “Muslims have the same right to practice their religion as everyone else in this country,”
On Saturday: “I was not commenting and I will not comment on the wisdom of making the decision to put a mosque … I was commenting very specifically on the right people have that dates back to our founding.”
Yup - sounds like Obama to me.
First Amendment … Fourteenth Amendment …
Our politicians support our Constitution in theory. In practice, its a matter of convenience.
There will be no Freedom Fries for LGBT Americans, not yet. And when people finally get that it was extremists that were responsible for 911, and not an entire religion, we’d be a much better America. Good thing there are no Christian, Jewish, or Mormon extremists.
Oh…
If you have not watched Dan Choi’s interview with Amy Goodman, you should. Dan Choi is exactly the kind of American we need to be defending our freedom, and now he is an American who has been kicked out of the military for doing so.
The battle to defeat Prop. 8 had launched the 63-year-old actor-turned-director-turned-political activist into a whole different sphere. Working closely with political strategist and longtime ally Chad Griffin, Reiner helped found the American Foundation for Equal Rights. As Griffin reached out to the gay community, Reiner used his Hollywood insider status to court a handful of millionaires and billionaires including Norman Lear, Steve Bing and David Geffen, who provided the $3 million-$5 million in seed money that allowed the foundation to support the work of high-powered lawyers Ted Olson and David Boies.
The plaintiffs from the Prop 8 Federal Trial, including Ryan Kendall and Jeff Zarrillo and me @Laura Kanter, are asking for your support, for donations that will go DIRECTLY to the ongoing defense of Judge Walker’s ruling…
…Help Defend it and Win Marriage for ALL—Text EQUAL to 25383
to donate $10 to the amazing and deserving folks who are fighting for
all of us: the American Foundation for Equal Rights. www.equalrightsfoundation.org
GetEQUAL gets the reward for doing the right thing.
The stay means people in California still cannot get married and who knows how long that will last. LGBT people still cannot marry in most states, still do not have total workplace protection in most states, and my friend Dan Choi is still discharged because of DADT. I am celebrating the victory of Judge Walker’s ruling, but it is bittersweet. We should not have to wait another minute for full equality. This is what Judge Walker’s ruling says… but sadly, so much of this country has to catch up to this wisdom.
The irony of hypocrisy…
“Yes. You actually read that. You really did. The Prop. 8 proponents admit, and are worried about, the harm inflicted on gay couples who are put through the ordeal of a trial and then denied marriage rights. They said that.”
that Prop H8 is upheld and then I hope they feel really really empty, lost and confused when God lets them down.

I love my wife. Especially when she looks at me with her beautiful brown eyes and says “well it seemed like a good idea at the time.”
